Sidhu Moosewala’s Mother Serves Legal Notice Over Misuse of Her Image During Protest

Charan Kaur, the mother of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has strongly objected to the use of her photograph during a recent protest in Jalandhar and has initiated legal action against the organisers. Two days after the incident, she issued a legal notice to members of the Global Christian Action Committee, accusing them of damaging her reputation.

In the notice, Charan Kaur has demanded a public apology within 15 days. She has also warned that failure to comply would make the organisers liable to pay ?10 lakh as compensation for defamation.

The controversy stems from a protest held outside the District Administrative Complex, where members of the Global Christian Action Committee demonstrated against Tejasvi Minhas, president of the Punjab Bachao Morcha, and activist Bhana Sidhu. The protest followed a complaint submitted to the Enforcement Directorate by Minhas and Bhana Sidhu, alleging that the organisation was involved in religious conversions funded through illegal foreign transactions.

During the demonstration, protesters burned three effigies, one of which mistakenly bore the photograph of Charan Kaur, despite her having no connection to the issue. Although slogans were raised only against Minhas and Bhana Sidhu, the inclusion of Charan Kaur’s image sparked immediate outrage.

When journalists questioned the protesters about the use of her photograph, organisers reportedly attempted to conceal the effigy and removed her picture. They later claimed the mistake occurred because they believed the photograph belonged to a relative of Tejasvi Minhas.

The incident triggered widespread criticism, with videos of the protest circulating rapidly on social media. Fans of Sidhu Moosewala and members of the public condemned the act as insensitive and provocative, calling on the Jalandhar administration to take firm action against those responsible.

The episode has drawn significant attention across media platforms, further intensifying calls for accountability over what many described as a reckless and disrespectful act involving the family of the late singer.
